Interventions
Interventions with Love

The Adult Children Center has been offering Interventions and has been helping family members of the chemically dependent since 1984. Having a family member or a loved one who has a drinking and/or drug problem is emotionally and physically draining. Having an Intervention is one of the best ways in getting help for the chemically dependent. The main goal of an Intervention is to break through the denial of the chemically dependent and to offer treatments that are avaiable.

There are 4 stages in the Intervention.

Stage 1: Initial Session

The person(s) concerned meets with the counselor to discuss the problem(s) and to learn what to do to begin the Intervention. The person who wants the Intervention will contact family members and friends to invite them to the next session.

Stage 2: Gathering of Family & Friends

Family and friends share what they see individually on how the chemically dependent has affected them. This is a good opportunity for family & friends to see the whole picture. Every member will be given a written assignment to complete and they will share with the chemically dependent during Stage 4: The Presentation.

Stage 3: Rehearsal of the Presentation

This is a rehearsal where everyone reads their letters. In addition, there will be a discussion on how the alcoholic will be brought to the next session. THERE WILL BE NO SURPRISE ATTACKS FOR THE CHEMICALLY DEPENDENT. The chemically dependent will be told the reason he/she is coming to the session. At least one family member will be responsible to check out various treatment options for the chemically dependent. This is the responsibility of the family not the Adult Children Center.

Stage 4: The Presentation

The chemically dependent is brought to the session and family & friends share their letters. In addition, treatment recommendations will be offered.
